Brewer Harris Live Presents: SolHarmonie: Les Femmes & The Word
Thursday May 22, Doors at 6:00 PM Performance starts at 6:45 PM
This is a free event, all are welcome.
The exhibit, The Word: Language as Material, uses speech as raw material, bringing words, text, and language into physical space. Coupled with a performance from poets Simone “Symphonie” Owens and Ruthnie “Rae Sunshine” Angrand, the evening performance will treat visitors to words as both a visual and auditory presentation.
Les Femmes & The Word will feature the poets’ transition through various archetypes of women exploring identity: women as warriors, women seeking solace, Renaissance women, and women empowered by self-love.
The duo SolHarmonie performs together and individually around the region of Upstate New York, weaving music and poems into intimate performances. Symphonie, Owens’ stage name, explores visual mediums, such as painting, as well as music. She is a published author and Syracuse native who found her voice in poetry through local icons like Jackie Warren Moore.
Rae Sunshine, Angrand’s stage name, is also a performer. She is a trained orator and chamber/jazz vocalist who connected with Symphonie when the pair performed as part of the Underground Poets collective. The collective as a whole hosted open mics around Syracuse for five years, and worked to foster writing workshops and open mics as a safe place for residents of all ages to explore their feelings through writing and sharing.
