Inaugural artist-in-residence Cameron Alexzander spent time at Brewer Harris Projects developing a new body work and engaging with the Syracuse community. His residency culminated in an exhibition and artist talk on August 28. The exhibition, Just A Kid From St. Louis, featured a series of new paintings reflecting on his journey as an artist, his St. Louis roots, and the experiences and memories that continue to shape his work.

Cameron Alexzander is a mixed media and sneaker customization artist whose work explores identity, culture, resilience, history, and personal growth. Drawing inspiration from vintage portraiture, contemporary urban culture, and storytelling, his work combines bold imagery with emotional narratives that celebrate individuality and lived experiences. With over a decade of artistic practice, Cameron has exhibited work throughout New York and engages communities through public art, educational programming, and youth-focused creative initiatives.

Recent exhibitions and projects include the Black Boy Art Show (Brooklyn, NY, 2026); serving as the invited live painter for Sharon Owens’ Mayor’s Ball, celebrating her election as Syracuse’s first Black mayor; and Redhouse Arts Center, where he was the institution’s first featured Black artist (2025–2026).

Beyond the studio, Cameron is an active member of Syracuse’s creative community. He has led youth sneaker customization workshops for Rise Above Poverty, participated in a Black History Month panel and collaborated with local schools on activities that encourage self-expression and confidence through art.

In addition to his mixed media works, Cameron creates limited-edition prints and wearable art. His work is held in private collections throughout the United States, including those of Carmelo Anthony, Allen Iverson, Larry June, Curren$y, and Rick Ross.
